The Challenge of Building Peace in Pakistan

Whilst in Abu Dhabi, Shaykh Bin Bayyah took part in an interview for Pakistan Television entitled The Challenge of Building Peace in Pakistan. In the interview, the shaykh outlined in clear and unambiguous terms the majority view amongst Islamic scholars that suicide bombings and the killing of civilians are not sanctioned in Islam. The shaykh addressed his comments to the situation in Pakistan directly and outlined Pakistan's special place in the hearts of the Muslim ummah.
The interview was broadcast during prime viewing hours on Pakistan Television and attracted a large audience. Pakistani viewers said Shaykh Bin Bayyah's concern for Pakistan stemming from his belief in Islamic solidarity was a welcome change from the hectoring tone they had come to expect from international figures.
